Who we are

Horse Trek’n is a small horse trekking business based just outside Paihia in the Bay of Islands. We offer guided rides through farmland, forest, and coastal landscapes, with options for all levels from complete beginners to experienced riders.

With a team of well-trained horses and experienced guides, our focus is on creating relaxed, memorable experiences in one of the most beautiful parts of Northland.

About Me

I started riding horses when I was 2-3 years old at my grandparents’ farm in France. From there, I joined pony club in Paris at 10 years old and horses have been part of my life ever since. Since moving to New Zealand, I started competing in eventing and now have two sport horses of my own. But what I’ve always loved most is sharing my passion for horses with other people – helping them learn how to trust and communicate with their horse, and watching that connection grow, even in a short ride.

My journey with Horse Trek’n actually started many years ago, long before I owned it. When I first arrived in New Zealand in 2013, this was my very first job. At the time, it was owned by a French woman who had built the business from the ground up, and later passed on to an English couple. I worked here in the summers, then went travelling, but I always found my way back to Paihia. When the opportunity came up to take over Horse Trek’n in January 2026, it felt like the right step. Some of the horses here I’ve known for over 12 years, which makes it even more special to now be the one looking after them.

Our Horses

Our horses are at the heart of everything we do. They live together as a herd all year round; they know each other, they form bonds, and they each have their own personalities. They really are like a big family.

We focus on giving them the best life we can. Some horses enjoy more relaxed rides, others love a gallop or a bit more adventure. We pay attention to what suits each horse, making sure they have variety in their week and proper rest when they need it. When the horses are happy, the experience for everyone is better.

The Experience

What makes riding here special is the variety and the setting. We’re lucky to be able to take people through some of the most beautiful parts of the Bay of Islands – from farmland and coastal views to the Waitangi forest. For more experienced riders, a gallop through the forest is an incredible adrenaline experience, and riding out to Baylys Farm offers some of the best views in Northland.

Our rides are designed for everyone. Whether you’ve never been on a horse before or you’re a confident rider, we can create an experience that suits you. One of the most unique parts of what we offer is the chance to swim your horse in the sea – something not many places can do.

For us, it’s about creating an experience that people will remember. We want you to enjoy your horse, take in the views and feel safe but still have a bit of adrenaline and excitement along the way. Most of all, we want you to leave remembering the name of your horse, the feeling of the ride, and wanting to come back again.

Our Home

Horse Trek’n is just a short 5 minute drive outside of Paihia, in the Bay of Islands in the stunning Northland of New Zealand. We are centrally located between Russell, Kerikeri and Kawakawa. Our region is arguably one of the most culturally significant and historic areas of New Zealand, with both the Waitangi Treaty Grounds – where the Tiriti o Waitangi was signed in 1840 between the North Island Maori Chiefs and the British Crown – and Russell, which was the first permanent European settlement in New Zealand.

For me, nothing beats a sunny day here with a clear blue sky. There are so many different places to ride, and every day feels a little bit different. It’s a place that’s easy to fall in love with – just like the horses.
