Run the Woods & Swim the Waves

Join us for a dynamic two-hour ride combining the best of forest trails and coastal adventure. We begin with approximately 1 hour 15 minutes riding through the stunning Waitangi Endowment Forest, following winding tracks through native bush, farmland, and scenic ridgelines. Experienced riders can enjoy longer canters and gallops on soft ground – an exhilarating way to take in the landscape.

From there, we make our way to Wairoa Bay for the second part of the experience. Our guides will remove the saddles and assist you in mounting bareback before heading into the water for a swim with your horse. This is a rare and unforgettable experience, offering a completely different connection with your horse in a calm, quiet part of the bay.

This ride is designed for intermediate to experienced riders looking for a mix of pace, scenery, and something a little different.

Important: This ride is only available in the summer months (Nov-Apr) and is subject to sea and weather conditions

Pricing
  • $250NZD per person

We ask that all customers arrive 20 minutes prior to their booked departure time so we can fit helmets and also take you through a safety briefing.

What to bring for ride the waves:

  • Swim wear (you may want to wear this under your normal clothing)
  • Towel to dry off at the end of the ride

What to wear:

  • Closed shoes with a small heel are preferable (no Jandals!)
  • Long trousers / sports pants (shorts will chaff your legs in the saddle!)

This ride is best suited to intermediate or experienced riders, as it includes a faster pace through the forest and requires confidence in the saddle.

If you’re newer to riding, we recommend our Forest & Hillside or Ride the Waves rides, which are better suited for beginners yet still offer an exciting and unique experience.

We do have a couple of horses available who are able to carry up to around 110 kg’s however we are limited by the number of bookings on each ride.

We therefore ask that if you are over our weight limit you please call us directly on +64 (0) 210 680 633 in order to get booked in. Please note that this will be subject to additional availability and our guides judgement is final – but we will try our best.
