Who we Are

Horse Trek’n has operated horse riding treks in the Bay of Islands for over 10 years, and is currently owned by Elizabeth Glover & partner Alex who now also live in the Bay area. Supported by a friendly group of experienced staff and well trained and friendly horses – we’re here to share with you our lifetime of equestrian experience and ensure you have a great time.

About Lizzy

Horses are a part of Lizzy’s genetics – having ridden from a young age and her family back in the UK having a strong horsey connection right the way through to great-great-great-grandparents! You could say riding horses was going to be inevitable! Before leaving the UK to travel and eventually move to New Zealand, through her teenage and younger adult years Lizzy would compete her own horse, the infamous Toddy, and progressed up the ranks of her local Pony Club and Riding Club before eventually turning her hand to help teaching fellow students and taking her BHS Stage 3 examinations. She is currently mid-way through studying towards the ESNZ coaching qualifications in NZ.

While Lizzy is comfortable and qualified to teach all levels, her passion is introducing people to the sport of equestrianism and she loves nothing more than watching people progress and blossom with confidence. She adopts a friendly teaching approach based around learning through fun, keeping both horse and rider happy as they progress on their riding journey together.

Our Home

Horse Trek’n is just a short 5 minute drive outside of Paihia, in the Bay of Islands in the stunning Northland of New Zealand. We are centrally located between Russell, Kerikeri and Kawakawa. Our region is arguably one of the most culturally significant and historic areas of New Zealand, with both the Waitangi Treaty Grounds – where the Tiriti o Waitangi was signed in 1840 between the North Island Maori Chiefs and the British Crown – and Russell, which was the first permanent European settlement in New Zealand.

With good weather nearly all year around – the Bay of Islands should be a must stop location for any keen travelers itinerary.

Our Mission

Our mission is to showcase the natural beauty of New Zealand – it’s taonga – in its natural state. We want to share with you our passion for the conservation of native species – in particular the protection of the kiwi and other native birds in our area, and help educate people on the importance of conservation and the history of our local area.

Our Rides

We are proud of our commitment to provide the best quality ride and trekking experience for all the family, from beginners through to advanced horse riders. We treat our horses as our best friends and as a result they reward us and our visitors with a great experiences each and every day.
